Instructional Staff Profiles
Mrs. Abubakr has worked for the charter school system since 2006 teaching both elementary and middle school. She grew up in a small town in northeastern Indiana and attended Indiana University in Bloomington where she received her bachelors of Science in Education. In 2010 Mrs. Abubakr graduated from Nova Southeastern University earning her masters in Curriculum Instruction. In 2012 she joined the Oasis Middle School staff and received her certification in Math grades 6-9.
Mrs. Abubakr enjoys reading, going to the beach, and most of all spending time with her husband and two children. Ever since a young age she knew she wanted to be a teacher and truly enjoys working with such wonderful administrators, teachers, students, and parents within the Oasis family!!
Mrs. Berthelette is originally from Massachusetts. She graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science degree. She and her family moved to Florida in 2002. She has 3 children; a college sophomore, a high school senior and a third grader. Mrs. Berthelette is a career changer. She worked for an Airline, worked in real estate, and worked for Florida's Department of Children & Families as a certified child protective investigator before she completed the Teacher Immersion Program at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2011. Mrs. Berthelette taught Cambridge/STEM Science and Social Studies at another school in Fort Myers for 3 years before coming to Oasis in 2014. In her spare time, Mrs. Berthelette loves to travel and read for fun. She is looking forward to another great year at Oasis.
Coach Joe Carson is in his 39th year as an algebra instructor and coach and is assuming duties as the middle school athletic director.
As a girls' basketball coach, originally from East Tennessee, Coach C's teams have won 4 AAU/USA national championships, finished as national runner-up 3 times, and captured 19 state AAU championships in Tennessee. He has taken 3 different high school programs to state tournaments throughout his career. He is a three-time winner of the AAU Gatorade National Coaches award and was a finalist for the WBCA national high school coach of the year in 1997.
Here at Oasis, Coach C began the Oasis high school girls’ basketball program and coordinated both it and the middle school program winning his 1000th victory in 2010 and continued his coaching career through 2015-16 finishing with an overall record of 1054-340. Doing dual duty as coach for both basketball teams Coach C guided Iguana boys to the Regional Independent Championship last season.
Coach Carson also coaches boys and girls tennis with his 2015 boys team posting an undefeated season. He also sponsors the MathCounts Club and does before school tutoring/study sessions in math for all grade levels from 7:00-7:30 in room #122.
My name is Matthew Clark. I grew up and went to College in California. I graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology, Teaching Concentration. I moved to Florida in the summer of 2007. For a couple years I was a substitute with the Charter School System and feel greatly blessed to now have a permanent position as a 6th Grade math teacher at Oasis Middle School.
I am from New York, but I have lived in Southwest Florida for 10 years. I have taught 3rd Grade in Fort Myers and in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 7th and 8th Grade Intensive and STEM Reading here at OMS. Before becoming a teacher, I worked with runaway and homeless children in New York. I have a 28 year-old son, a 26 year-old daughter, and a 19 year-old son at FSU.
I am originally from Brooklyn, New York. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in education from Brooklyn College. I have lived in Cape Coral since 2004 and really enjoy it here. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, and watching old movies. I have had experience in teaching grades 3 through 7 over the years. This year I will be teaching 6th grade language arts and look forward to having a great year at Oasis Middle School.
Jane Desroches teaches 6th and 7th Grade STEM Mathematics, and 7th Grade Mathematics. She runs the NHS Mathematics Tutorial Club, the Oasis Explorers Club, and Mathletes Club. She is originally from Wisconsin, but moved to Florida from Michigan in 2005, and loves living here. Mrs. Desroches graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science, and a double major in Mathematics and Science. She first taught World History for Lee County, then Middle School Mathematics at a Private School, and now loves teaching here at Oasis since 2008. Mrs. Desroches hopes that her students will leave her classroom with a passion to seek new knowledge on their own as well.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York where I graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.A. in Psychology. I taught 2nd grade in New York for 2 years. In 2005, my husband and I along with our 2 children decided to move to Cape Coral. I have been with the Charter School System since we opened in ’05. I have taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade. This year will be my 1st year in middle school and I am super excited to begin my new journey here.
I am very thankful to have the opportunity to join the Oasis Middle family this year as a seventh grade language arts teacher! I graduated with my Bachelor's in Middle Grades Education from the University of West Florida in 2011. I am certified in Florida to teach both language arts and social studies. Over the past three years, I have enjoyed working at both the preschool and middle school level. This year, I am excited to get to know my seventh graders in class and through their writing.
I taught sixth and seventh grade science at Oasis last year following a year at Treeline Elementary teaching physical education. I received my Bachelors’ degree at the University of West Florida in Exercise Science and earned a minor in Professional Education. I coach Varsity Boys’ Basketball and Golf here at Oasis.
My name is Adriana Follese. I am a mom of 2 awesome kids, Vivian and Ethan, and a super cool dog named Bella. I joined the Oasis Family in 2015 as a Substitute School Teacher and am very excited to start a new journey with Oasis Middle School. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelors in Science, majoring in Dietetics and Nutrition. I teach Zumba Fitness on my downtime and have a passion to teach and inspire. I look forward to teaching at Oasis Middle School and creating lasting memories!
I am very thankful and blessed to be a part of the Oasis Middle School family. I truly love it here! I am originally from Tennessee (born and raised there). I graduated from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) majoring in English with a minor in Secondary Education/Interdisciplinary Studies. I taught for 5 years in Tennessee. My husband and I decided to move to Cape Coral, Florida in 2012 and I have been teaching here in Florida since then. Teaching is my passion. I am currently teaching 8th grade Language Arts. In addition to my passion for teaching, I also have 4 amazingly beautiful children (2 boys and 2 girls) whom I adore and love with all of my heart: Hogan, Bailey Grace, Boston, & Aniston. They are my world! With that being said, I am looking forward to another great year here at Oasis.
Ms. Hannon graduated from USF College of Education in 1991. She is certified to teach grades K-9. Ms. Hannon taught 5th grade for years in Atlanta before she decided to stay home with her daughters. Upon moving back to the area Ms. Hannon taught 5th grade in the Lee County School District for 3 more years. In 2007 she moved to Oasis Middle School and loves being at such a wonderful school.
Ms. Kreamer teaches 8th grade US History and is a social studies enthusiast, holding a bachelor's degree focusing on history/political science as well as a Master's degree in teaching. Prior to becoming a teacher, Ms. Kreamer spent a decade working for an international foundation, managing several humanitarian service grant programs and training volunteers worldwide. Ms. Kreamer has been teaching since 2005 and moved to Cape Coral from the Chicagoland area, where she was born and raised. Prior to joining the middle school family, she taught 5th grade a Christa McAuliffe for two years. She is thrilled to no longer have to shovel snow!
Hello, my name is Kari Logan and I was born and raised in Athens, Ohio. I attended Hocking College and enjoyed a career as corporate trainer and retail manager with the Limited Corp. Prior to moving to SWFL in 2009, I was fortunate enough to own a family business with my husband and had the amazing opportunity to stay home and be a mom to our two children.
I love living in SWFL and enjoy the many year-round outdoor activities FL has to offer! When I'm not at OMS, you can find me boating and snorkeling with my family, rollerblading, spending time by our pool, and playing with our dogs. I am a huge college football fan, love to sit down with a good book, and enjoy cooking.
My favorite quote is by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I look forward to working with the awesome students at OMS. I will support, challenge, and drive our students and together we will achieve and celebrate our successes!
Dr. David Lutz
My name is Dr. David Lutz. I grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin and I am a big Green Bay Packer fan. After high school, I enlisted in the Army as a tanker. My first duty station was Erlangen, Germany, where I deployed to the Persian Gulf. I proudly served in Operation Desert Shield and Storm. My second duty station was at Fort Knox in Kentucky where I met my beautiful wife. After my time in the military, my wife and I moved to Atlanta, Georgia so I could earn my Doctorate of Chiropractic. While there, we had three amazing children who are now 19, 17, and 15. We eventually moved back to Kentucky and I started my career as a chiropractor. After spending 15 years practicing chiropractic, we finally were able to realize our dream and move to Florida. This is my first year teaching and I am very excited to start this new adventure.
Mrs. Malone-Ramos is the ESE resource teacher for Oasis Middle School. She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Communication Arts and a Master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education with a specialty in ESOL and Autism. Prior to going into teaching she spent 10+ years working in the radio broadcasting field. Mrs. Malone-Ramos has been with the Oasis Middle School family since 2012. Prior to coming to Oasis she spent two years in Lee County Schools working in Intensive Academics. She also instructs communication courses at local colleges in her spare time. Mrs. Malone-Ramos is originally from New York (born and raised) and moved to Cape Coral in 2006 where she resides with her husband, son and 3 dogs. She is so happy to be part of such a wonderful school system and is looking forward to a great school year!!!
S.T.E.M. Social Studies
Mr. McCarthy is a Social Studies teacher for the STEM Program. He is also the STEM coordinator. This is his 8th year as part of the OMS family. Mr. McCarthy is in his 13th year of teaching and is a National Board Certified Teacher. He graduated from Mt. St. Clare College in Clinton, IA with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science and a concentration in Psychology. Mr. McCarthy moved to Lee County Florida in 2000 where he was a mental health counselor for a local agency. After counseling children and their families for 2 years Mr. McCarthy became a public school teacher. If you have any questions regarding Social Studies or STEM please direct them to Mr. McCarthy.
Sara Myers has her Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Central Florida. She began her teaching career at Oasis Elementary as their K-5 music teacher, chorus director, as well as co-directing the musicals. Now at Oasis Middle she teaches an Exploratory Performing Arts class, directs our chorus the Treble Makers, and directs the school musical. Outside of school she teaches the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, Mariner High’s Silver Magic Marching Band, and is a professional trumpet player!
My name is Diana Pacheco and this is my 3rd year at Oasis Middle School. I am currently teaching 6th grade Study Skills. I am originally from Queens, N.Y. I earned a BS in Psychology at the University of Maryland and a Master of Science in Psychology with the University of Phoenix. I am married and have 3 children (16, 13, and 7), who are enrolled with the Charter School system here in Cape Coral, Fl. I am very excited to commence another terrific year at Oasis Middle School and look forward to assisting our wonderful students.
Hello, my name is Kristin Pankey. I am from Rhode Island, however my husband and I have lived here in beautiful Cape Coral for more than 20 years now. We have two great girls and we are all avid fishermen. This is my 21st year as a teacher. Half of that was spent with elementary children and the last half was devoted to teaching ASL, Earth Science and Life Science I am pleased to say that I have been with our City of Cape Coral Charter Schools since 2005. After leaving for a year, it is with great pleasure to be home with a wonderful group of teachers, administration, and students.
I am a proud graduate of Flagler College in St. Augustine in 1995 with a B.A. in Elementary teaching and a B.A. in Deaf Education K-12. I am also certified in the state of Florida to teach science for grades 5-9. This year will be a great year in engineering classes at Oasis Middle School!
Kathleen Paul Evans
World History & Science
This year Ms Paul Evans is the educator for World History Grade 6 Gifted, and Oasis S.T.E.M. Academy students. She also teaches a core group of 8th Grade Scientists. A native Coloradan, and graduate of The University of Maryland, Ms. Paul Evans has lived and worked on five on the seven world continents. Happy to be living in Cape Coral with her two children, and two small dogs, Ms. Paul Evans celebrates her ninth year as part of the Oasis Charter Schools system. Ms Paul Evans is also the OMS Science Fair Coordinator, and the OMS National Geographic Bee Coordinator.
I have been part of the Oasis Middle School family since 2011. I transferred to Oasis from a private school where I taught elementary and coached middle school volleyball for ten years. During my time at Oasis, I have substituted, worked as a paraprofessional with ESE, as well as taught 6/7th Science, 6/7th Math, and covered three maternity leaves in one school year, including 8th Algebra and 7th Language Arts. I have continued to coach the volleyball team here at Oasis as well. This experience has given me a well -rounded insight into various subjects and all grades in middle school. I attended Nova Southeastern University earning 78 credits in Elementary Education before transferring to Gulf Coast University where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies. Upon graduation, I certified in Science grades 5-9. My husband and I are originally from Indiana and moved to Florida in 1988. We have been married 25 years and have two daughters, Jessie 22 and Kylie 18. My passion for family and teaching is what drives me every day. I look forward to another great year here at Oasis!
I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education through Oakland City University, Indiana. I am currently working towards my certification in Language Arts and ESOL. Teaching is a passion of mine. I love to inspire students to write. I have taught seven years at Christa McAuliffe Elementary, and look forward to continuing my teaching experience at Oasis Middle (seventh grade Language Arts). I am currently working towards my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership through St. Leo University. I look forward to not only assisting students, but I also have a desire to lead teachers.
Ms. Richardson is from Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She is a proud graduate of Albion College, a small liberal arts school in Albion, MI, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in English in 2005. Ms. Richardson has happily taught 6th and 7th grade language arts and reading at Oasis since 2007.
Ms. Rieder is currently a STEM Language Arts teacher. She graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Human Relations and Math. In 2001, she became a flight attendant and moved to New York where she lived for 4 years. She later moved to Kentucky where she taught two years of 5th grade and received her Master’s in Education from Northern Kentucky University.
I am a University of South Florida graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education. I started teaching in 1990. My experiences are in second grade through eighth grade. I have two children. My son is a mechanical engineer and a graduate of F.I.T. and my daughter just received her masters from Loyola University in August 2010! I am looking forward to a new school year with the "Oasis family." I teach sixth grade Reading.
Nicolle Rockenbaugh grew up in Indiana and graduated from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Business Public Policy Analysis and Legal Studies. After working in full-time ministry in Texas and for an experiential education firm in Washington D.C., Nicolle transitioned to teaching mid-career. She completed her education coursework with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana and is entering her fifth year of teaching.
In her free time, Nicolle enjoys traveling, visiting National Parks, reading, and spending time with family. Nicolle is new to southwest Florida and is excited to explore the local beaches and join the Cape Coral community! She looks forward to a great school year with Oasis Middle School students, parents, and staff!
I have lived in Florida since 5th grade (1979) and I LOVE living here. I am married to Nancy and have 3 children (Courtney 20, Chris 18, and Michael 15) we also have 3 dogs. Some things I love are church, coaching, the beach, boating, hiking, college sports (Go ‘Noles!), Bears football and Rays baseball. My college experience is diverse! I received my A.A. from Andrew College. Then, I went to Florida State University to major in Economics. I worked in the business world for 5 years and I realized that I really wanted to make a difference and the business world is not necessarily the place to make it. Finally, I graduated from the Florida Gulf Coast with a Certification in Education. This is my 19th year of teaching and I love coming to school each day!
I have just recently relocated to Florida from lovely Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from Kent State University, majoring in Health and Physical Education. I am very thankful and excited for this opportunity to teach at Oasis Middle School. In my spare time I enjoy being around my family and friends, as well as my two cats, Taco and Dorito. I also enjoy staying physically active by bicycling, kayaking, and running. I have participated in a number of races, including the Cleveland Half Marathon, Tough Mudder, and Warrior Dash. I want to share my passion for physical activity with my students and lead them to live a long and healthy lifestyle. I look forward to many successful years here at OMS.
Mr. Smith studied Physical Education at Kent State University, earning his degree 2009. He has taught elementary Physical Education in both Ohio and Florida and spent a couple years teaching a “Relevant Education” course at a high school in Idaho. Mr. Smith has also worked as an Athletic Director at a Boys and Girls Club and YMCA in Washington. He looks forward to joining an awesome team of educators at Oasis Middle where he can learn and grow professionally. In his free time Mr. Smith enjoys staying active paddle boarding, playing tennis, swimming, biking and running with his family.
My name is Jana Smoker, and this is my 6th year at Oasis Middle School. I am currently teaching 6th grade World History which I enjoy very much! I am originally from Central PA. I received my Bachelors of Science in Communicative Studies in 2003 and a Masters of Arts degree in Human Services in 2012, both from Liberty University. I received my professional educator’s certificate shortly after becoming a part of the Oasis family in 2009.
My husband and I have lived in Cape Coral since 2007. We enjoy going to the beach, traveling, and anything that involves the outdoors. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
Mr. Sterk graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Education w/Science specialization in 2003. He then moved with his wife to Niamey, Niger West Africa and taught at the American International School of Niamey for 3 years. After Africa, Mr. Sterk returned to Iowa to earn his Master's Degree in Science Education and to start a family. In Iowa Mr. Sterk taught middle school science for 6 years and coached middle school basketball. Now with 2 daughters (Eden and Rilah), Mr. Sterk and his family continued their adventure by moving to Managua, Nicaragua to teach at the American Nicaraguan School. After 3 great years in Central America, Mr. Sterk and his family decided to make Southwest Florida a more permanent home and now live in Cape Coral. This is Mr. Sterk's 2nd year at OMS, and his 14th year teaching science!
I was born and raised in Seattle, and graduated from Washington State University. Right after graduation, I moved around exploring, working, and volunteering in many different countries and states before finally ending up here in Cape Coral. This is my second year teaching math and coaching girls basketball at Oasis, and I know it’s going to be a great year!
Mrs. Totten teaches intensive reading to sixth and seventh graders. This is her tenth year teaching and fifth year teaching at Oasis Middle School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Writing and Education; a Master’s Degree in Education, specializing in Reading from Saint Leo University, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Reading and Literacy.
I have been teaching for 16 years, 4 of which have been at Oasis Middle School. I was born and raised in Belleville, Pennsylvania which is a small farming community in central PA. My family moved to Cape Coral in 2012 and was blessed to become a part of the Oasis family. I am married with five children; 3 at home, 1 in the Air Force and, 1 in college. As you may assume from the size of my family, I do love children and consider it a blessing to be an OMS teacher.
I graduated from Lock Haven University PA with my Bachelors in Education in 2000. I have taught in a variety of settings, both public and private schools, and in a variety of grades. I am currently licensed to teach Elementary K-6 and Social Science grades 5-8 in the State of Florida, and teach 7th grade Civics here at OMS. In Civics we will explore topics such a Geography, Citizenship, Government, and Economics. We will take in depth looks at the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, as well as, the three branches of the government.
