This is the start of my third year as a math teacher here at Oasis Middle.  I was at Oasis Elementary as a 5th grade teacher for several years prior.  I have two children and I live here in Cape Coral.

Mrs. Baxter teaches STEM Language Arts. Originally from Baltimore, she moved to Cape Coral with her family in 2006. She holds a bachelor's degree in Writing & English from Loyola University and a master's degree from the University of Baltimore. She also completed the Teacher Immersion Program at Florida Gulf Coast University. Before she began teaching for Lee County Public Schools in 2009, she worked for 15 years in journalism and public relations.

Janiris Caraballo
Physical Education

Ms. Caraballo was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Cape Coral. She graduated from Mariner High School and went on to graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2005. She has been teaching at Oasis Middle School since it opened in 2006. Ms. Caraballo is currently teaching PE in the middle school and is the head coach of the Oasis Middle School and Oasis High School girls' volleyball teams. So, if you are interested in playing volleyball next year stop by her office in the gym or send her an email.

Math 

Coach Joe Carson is in his 36th year as a math/algebra instructor. 


As a girls' basketball coach, originally from East Tennessee, Coach C's teams have won 4 AAU/USA national championships, finished as national runner-up 3 times, and captured 19 state AAU championships in Tennessee.  He has taken 3 different high school programs to state tournaments throughout his career.  He is a three-time winner of the AAU Gatorade National Coaches award and was a finalist for the WBCA national high school coach of the year in 1997.   

Here at Oasis, Coach C began the Oasis high school girls’ basketball program and coordinated both it and the middle school programs for 6 seasons; winning his 1000th victory in 2010 and will continue his coaching career in 2014 with an overall record of 1024-325.  

 

He also sponsors the Math Olympiad Club and does before school tutoring in math for all grade levels on Tuesdays from 7:00-7:30 in room #122.

My name is Matthew Clark. I grew up and went to College in California. I graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology, Teaching Concentration. I moved to Florida in the summer of 2007.  For a couple years I was a substitute with the Charter School System and feel greatly blessed to now have a permanent position as a 6th Grade Science teacher at Oasis Middle School.

Reading

Mrs. Clayman has a Master's Degree in Education and is endorsed to teach Reading in grades K-12. She has lived in Southwest Florida for 8 years and has taught 3rd Grade, 7th Grade and 8th Grade Reading in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Fort Myers and here at OMS. Before becoming a mom, Mrs. Clayman worked with runaway and homeless children in New York. She has a son and daughter in their 20's who work in New York, and a son at Oasis High School. Her next big goal in life is to sail around the world.

Mrs. Clementi teaches 6th grade Math. She is originally from New York. She moved to Cape Coral in 1983. She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education K-6 and a M.S. in Educational Leadership. Mrs. Clementi started teaching in 1989 and joined the charter school family in 2013.  She loves to read, play tennis, bike, swim and travel.

Study Skills 

Mrs. Elisa Collins teaches 6th grade Study Skills-Learning to Learn. She finds it exciting to empower the students with tips and techniques that will make them better lifelong learners. Mrs. Collins has been teaching since 1978. Originally from NYC, she and her family moved to Cape Coral in 1992. Prior to her move she taught kindergarten, second and sixth grade. When she relocated to Cape Coral, Florida, she began teaching at St. Andrew. In her 16 years at St. Andrew she created the Media Center and then went on to teach kindergarten, Pre-K, second and sixth grade. Mrs. Collins received her Bachelors in Elementary Education from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY and her Masters in Educational Leadership from Barry University, Miami Shores, FL. Mrs. Collins is married and has 3 children and one grandson.

I am originally from Brooklyn, New York. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in education from Brooklyn College. I have lived in Cape Coral since 2004 and really enjoy it here.  In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, and watching old movies. I have had experience in teaching grades 3 through 7 over the years. This year I will be teaching 6th grade language arts and look forward to having a great year at Oasis Middle School.

Kyle Doty is a graduate of Edison State College (now Florida Southwestern State College). He holds is B.S. in Middle Grades Language Arts.  Before becoming a teacher, he worked in real estate management and professional recruiting for the banking industry. An avid traveler, Mr. Doty has visited many Central American countries, Europe, and islands in the Caribbean (Bahamas and Haiti).  The most interesting trip he took included living among an Indian tribe near the Darien jungle in Panama for a summer. He has a wife and three children and a baby on the way in the spring.

I am very thankful to have the opportunity to join the Oasis Middle family this year as a seventh grade language arts teacher! I graduated with my Bachelor's in Middle Grades Education from the University of West Florida in 2011. I am certified in Florida to teach both language arts and social studies. Over the past three years, I have enjoyed working at both the preschool and middle school level. This year, I am excited to get to know my seventh graders in class and through their writing.

Physical Education

I taught sixth and seventh grade science at Oasis last year following a year at Treeline Elementary teaching physical education. I received my Bachelors’ degree at the University of West Florida in Exercise Science and earned a minor in Professional Education. I coach Varsity Boys’ Basketball and Golf here at Oasis.

Social Studies 

After graduating from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in Family Relations and Human Development, Monica Eppler decided to leave behind the cold Midwestern winters and move to Florida. Her relocation introduced her to a career with DCF in foster care and protective supervision, from where she moved onto work as a family law case manager with the 20th Judicial Circuit Family Court Services. Inspired by the children and families she met while working with DCF, Monica decided teaching was her true calling and she joined the Oasis family in 2007.

I received my education from Illinois State University with a degree in Middle Level Education. My entire family is located in the Chicago suburbs, where I grew up. Two years ago I moved to Florida and have enjoyed the warm climate ever since.

Math 

Jane Flynn teaches 7th Grade Mathematics, and runs the NHS Mathematics Tutorial Club, the Oasis Explorers Club, and Forensic Science (CSI) Club. She is originally from Wisconsin but moved to Florida from Michigan in 2005, and loves living here. Ms. Flynn graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science, and a double major in Mathematics and Science. She first taught World History for Lee County, then Middle School Mathematics at a Private School, and now loves teaching here at Oasis since 2008. Ms. Flynn hopes that her students will leave her classroom with a passion to seek new knowledge on their own as well.

I am a graduate of Boston University and the Spanish teacher at OMS.  I have an incredible fiancé and 3 amazing children - they are my world!  I am a proud member of the Oasis family.  This will be my second year representing the Iguanas.  I look forward to collaborating with the awesome team again and to another successful and remarkable school year!

I am very thankful and blessed that I was given the amazing opportunity to join the Oasis Middle School family.  I truly love it here!  I am originally from Tennessee (born and raised there). I graduated from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) majoring in English with a minor in Secondary Education/Interdisciplinary Studies.  I taught for 5 years in Tennessee.  My husband and I decided to move to Cape Coral, Florida and I have been teaching here in Florida for 3 years now.  Teaching is my passion.  I am currently teaching 8th grade Language Arts. In addition to my passion for teaching, I also have 4 amazingly beautiful children (2 boys and 2 girls) whom I adore and love with all of my heart: ages 8, 6, 5, & 3. They are just precious. With that being said, I am looking forward to a great year here at Oasis.

I have been a teacher since 1988. I graduated from University of South Florida in Tampa with my teaching degree in Specific Learning Disabilities. I also stayed one extra year so that I could be certified in Elementary Education, ESOL and Early Childhood Education. I have had the opportunity to teach students from Kindergarten through fifth grade, and now I am looking forward to a new adventure!   While attending USF I met my husband, Tom, and we have been married for 25 years. We have three children. Abbey graduated from USF and is now a teacher at North Ft. Myers High School. Dan is a Lance Corporal in the US Marines. He is stationed in California. Rachel is a cheerleader at FGCU studying Sociology.   I love teaching and I love kids. Learning should be fun so I try to make it that way. There is nothing I enjoy more than when a student loves to learn! I have high expectations for all my students and they NEVER let me down.

Career Education

 Ms. Hannon graduated from USF College of Education in 1991. She is certified to teach grades K-9. Ms. Hannon taught 5th grade for years in Atlanta before she decided to stay home with her daughters. Upon moving back to the area Ms. Hannon taught 5th grade in the Lee County School District for 3 more years. In 2007 she moved to Oasis Middle School and loves being at such a wonderful school.

Art

Mrs. Harper teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Art. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BA in journalism and a minor in art. She earned her Florida teaching certificate in 1988, and is certified in Art K-12.  Before coming to Oasis, she taught K-8 Art, and K-12 Special Needs Art in parochial schools. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Harper's career experience includes graphic design and work as a Creative Director of a magazine. In 1980 she and her husband moved to Cape Coral where they have raised a daughter, who is an architect and artist, and a son who is an engineer.

Social Studies

Ms. Kreamer teaches 8th grade US History and is a social studies enthusiast, holding a bachelor's degree focusing on history/political science as well as a Master's degree in teaching.  Prior to becoming a teacher, Ms. Kreamer spent a decade working for an international foundation, managing several humanitarian service grant programs and training volunteers worldwide.   Ms. Kreamer has been teaching since 2005 and moved to Cape Coral from the Chicagoland area, where she was born and raised.  Prior to joining the middle school family, she taught 5th grade a Christa McAuliffe for two years.  She is thrilled to no longer have to shovel snow!

My name is Linda MacCallum and I teach 6th Grade Math at Oasis Middle School. Born in Staten Island, New York, I mostly grew up in Hershey, PA and graduated from The Pennsylvania State University (Go Penn State)!  I have 3 sons-two are in college and my youngest is a junior in high school. I spend a lot of my time volunteering for my son’s high school football program. My favorite thing to do is to escape to the beach! I have been teaching in Pennsylvania and Florida for almost 20 years. I have taught 1st, 4th, and 5th grades, Math Resource 4-6, and Guidance K-6. I am certified in Elementary Education 1-6, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum 5-9, and ESOL K-12. I really enjoy teaching at Oasis Middle School!

 I am originally from New York and have been living in Cape Coral for about 6 years.  Prior years teaching include ESE Intensive Academic in Science and Social Studies as well as teaching Public Speaking at local colleges.  Before going into teaching I worked in Radio Broadcasting for 10 years.  I have a Bachelors (’04) and Masters (’09) of Arts degree in Communication Arts  and I am pursuing a second Master’s degree in Education (’13) with University of Central Florida with a specialty in Special Education, ESOL and a certificate in Professional Writing.  I am so happy to be a part of the Oasis Team and look forward to an Awesome Year!

Social Studies

Mr. McCarthy is the Social Studies teacher for the STEM Program. This is his 6th year as part of the OMS family. Mr. McCarthy is in his 12th year of teaching and is a National Board Certified Teacher. He graduated from Mt. St. Clare College in Clinton, IA with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science and a concentration in Psychology. Mr. McCarthy moved to Lee County Florida in 2000 where he was a mental health counselor for a local agency. After counseling children and their families for 2 years Mr. McCarthy became a public school teacher. S.T.E.M. Engineering & Technology

Mrs. McLain has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Science education from Northern Arizona University and has been teaching 6th,7th and 8th grade STEM Engineering & Technology at Oasis for 3 years.  Before coming to Oasis, Mrs. McLain taught middle school in Arkansas and 7th-12th grade science classes in the US Virgin Islands.  Mrs. McLain is forwarding to another exciting year in "Camp Chaos"!

This year Ms. Paul Evans teaches World History, Adv/Gifted and Science, Adv/Gifted.  A native Coloradan, and graduate of The University of Maryland, Ms. Paul Evans has lived and worked on five on the seven world continents. Happy to be living in Cape Coral with her two children, and two small dogs, Ms. Paul Evans celebrates her eighth year as part of the Oasis Charter Schools system. Ms. Paul Evans is also the OMS Science Fair Coordinator, and the OMS Spelling Bee Coordinator.

My name is Amy Picciolo and I have been a teacher since 1992.  I was born in Brooklyn and raised on Staten Island, New York.  I have a wonderful supportive husband and three beautiful children, who attend the Oasis Charter Schools with me.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Secondary Education.  I am very fortunate to have worked here since the doors opened in 2005 and love every minute of collaborating with great students, faculty and parents.

I am teaching math at Oasis Middle School this year. Born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania (Home of the Little League World Series!), I moved to Naples, Florida with my family, during my elementary school life. I received my education from the University of South Florida, graduating with a B.A. in Marketing and Distributive Education, in 1985.  I am also eligible to teach 5th-9th grade mathematics. I am coming from teaching in the private sector, where I taught middle and high school math for the past several years. I am married and have two awesome grown children. Reading 

Ms. Rieder is currently the 7th grade reading teacher. She graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Human Relations and math. In 2001, she became a flight attendant and moved to New York where she lived for 4 years. She later moved to Kentucky where she taught two years of 5th grade and received her Master’s in Education from Northern Kentucky University.

I am a University of South Florida graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education. I started teaching in 1990. My experiences are in second grade through eighth grade. I have two children. My son is a mechanical engineer and a graduate of F.I.T. and my daughter just received her masters from Loyola University in August 2010! Science

 Mr. Royal is retired from the United States Air Force. He led several large Fighter aircraft maintenance units during Operation DESERT STORM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and ALLIED FORCE. He is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and teaches 8th grade Science. Mr. Royal is also the President of the Oasis Aerospace Club (curriculum is STEM based). I have lived in Florida since 5th grade (1979) and I LOVE living here. I am married to Nancy and have 3 children (Courtney 18, Chris 16, and Michael 13) we also have 3 dogs. Some things I love are church, coaching, the beach, boating, hiking, college sports (Go ‘Noles!), Bears football and Rays baseball.  My college experience is diverse! I received my A.A. from Andrew College. Then, I went to Florida State University to major in Economics. I worked in the business world for 5 years and I realized that I really wanted to make a difference and the business world is not necessarily the place to make it. Finally, I graduated from the Florida Gulf Coast with a Certification in Education.  This is my 17th year of teaching and I love coming to school each day!

Physical Education

Mr. Smith studied Physical Education at Kent State University, earning his degree 2009. He has taught elementary Physical Education in both Ohio and Florida and spent a couple years teaching a “Relevant Education” course at a high school in Idaho. Mr. Smith has also worked as an Athletic Director at a Boys and Girls Club and YMCA in Washington.  He looks forward to joining an awesome team of educators at Oasis Middle where he can learn and grow professionally.  In his free time Mr. Smith enjoys staying active paddle boarding, playing tennis, swimming, biking and running with his family.

Social Studies 

My name is Jana Smoker, and this is my 6th year at Oasis Middle School. I am currently teaching 6th grade World History which I enjoy very much!  I am originally from Central PA. I received my Bachelors of Science in Communicative Studies in 2003 and a Masters of Arts degree in Human Services in 2012, both from Liberty University. I received my professional educator’s certificate shortly after becoming a part of the Oasis family in 2009.  

My husband and I have lived in Cape Coral since 2007. We enjoy going to the beach, traveling, and anything that involves the outdoors. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!

TV Production 

Mrs. Theriault is a graduate of Barry University with a bachelor's degree in Communication.  After graduating from college, Mrs. Theriault worked in television newsrooms in Miami, Bangor-Maine, Toledo-Ohio, Burlington-Vermont and right here in Cape Coral at WFTX -  FOX4.  Her experience in broadcast journalism includes videography, reporting, producing, and anchoring local news programs. During her more than 12 years in news, Mrs. Theriault covered education, crime, Presidential and local political races, and the unforgettable hurricane seasons of 2004/2005. Also, experienced in public relations and marketing, Mrs. Theriault is now enjoying teaching television production and producing the school's newscast Iguana 5 News. In 2013, Mrs. Theriault received the Distinguished Educator of the Year Award at the Middle School from the Charter School Foundation.   Married to her college sweetheart, she and her husband are the proud parents of two wonderful children.

Reading

Kristen Totten teaches sixth grade intensive and advanced reading.  She helps out with Odyssey of the mind and tutors after school.  She moved here in 2006 from Massachusetts and lives with her husband and three children.   She graduated cum laude from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island as a double major in Creative Writing and Education, with a concentration in Spanish.  She is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Education, specializing in Reading at Saint Leo University.  This is her eighth year of teaching.  Mrs. Totten has taught first, fourth, sixth, and seventh grade.
