GATE Expectations
Gifted and Talented Education- The GATE program is an advanced program designed to challenge gifted students as well as other high achievers. To be in GATE a student must be gifted or of exemplary academic performance characterized by the highest percentile on State exams and GPA in all subjects. A member of the GATE program should also demonstrate exemplary behavior and class participation. A GATE student should always strive to be an active participant in class activities and be a model of exceptional behavior.
Attendance - numbers - 20 or more absences
Grade - any D or F (core); two or more C’s (core) - for final grade
Behavior - three or more minor referrals; two or more major referrals
Being in GATE is a privilege and is not a guaranteed seat. At each semester, students will be evaluated on the above criteria to determine if the GATE program is the right fit. Students not meeting the attendance, grade, and behavior expectations will be placed in a different class to better meet their needs.
